Billy Corgan has a new music machine.
Though it had been hinted at earlier in the year, Smashing Pumpkins’ founding guitarist-vocalist has now formally announced he’ll be celebrating his iconic alt-rock songbook on tour this June, but through a new solo venture called Billy Corgan and the Machines of God.
A 16-show stretch of dates has just been finalized, with it being added in a press release that Corgan and his new crew will be performing songs from 1995’s Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness and 2000’s Machina/The Machines of God & Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music to celebrate their 30th and 25th anniversaries, respectively.
The band will likewise be performing tracks from the Pumpkins’ 2024 release Aghori Mori Mei, presumably just because it rips.
Dubbed the “A Return to Zero Tour,” the trek comprises 14 headlining dates and a pair of festival appearances. The make up the Machines of God is a “four-piece, two set guitar lineup” matching the vibe of the Pumpkins’ first incarnation, and Corgan will be joined by current Pumpkins live guitarist Kiki Wong, as well as drummer Jake Hayden and bassist Kid Tigrrr (a.k.a. Jenna Fournier).
The trip kicks off June 7th at the Soundstage in Baltimore, Maryland. Artist presales beginning on Tuesday (April 1st) at 10:00 a.m. local time, while general tickets go live by Friday (April 4th).
You’ll find the full run of dates down below.
As previously reported, Corgan will also be celebrating Smashing Pumpkins later this year alongside the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Together, they’ll be staging an operatic version of Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness that reimagines the classic album, and will likewise feature newly commissioned musical arrangements and orchestrations by Corgan and conductor James Lowe.
The opera runs November 21st-30th. Tickets go on sale April 11th, and you can find out more info here.
Finally, Smashing Pumpkins will also be issuing a limited edition, deluxe box set of 80-song box set collection for Machina/The Machines of God and Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music. It features the original, 48-track MACHINA cycle, as well as an additional 32 tracks of demos, outtakes, and live performances.
The box set will be sold exclusively at Corgan’s Madame Zuzu’s tea shop in Highland Park, IL, though a streamlined, 16-song Machina/The Machines of God repress is set to be released on August 22nd.
