Andreas Kisser wants Sepultura to go back to their roots during their last show — sort of.
A recent interview with Moshpit Passion found the veteran guitarist inviting all former members of the band to take part in the Brazilian metal pioneers’ final farewell concert, including founding brothers Max and Iggor Cavalera. While plans have yet to be firmed up for that show, he noted that “everything is possible.”
“We like to invite all the ex-members, including the brothers, Cavalera brothers,” he said, adding, “Let’s see what happens. We’re working towards that, to have a big celebration for the fans.”
The Cavalera brothers, who founded Sepultura in 1984, have had a famously icy relationship with the band since going separate ways. Max had left the group in 1996 following the release of their landmark album Roots. Iggor continued to play with the group until 2006. Most recently, the siblings redefined their relationship with the early Sepultura material by fully re-recording 1985’s Bestial Devastation, 1986’s Morbid Visions and 1987’s Schizophrenia with their Cavalera project.
Earlier this year, Max told Rock Hard Greece that a reunion could happen “as long as we do it the right way,” but shortly thereafter told Metal Injection, “The more the time passes by, the more I feel that I don’t need to [reunite with Sepultura].”
Kisser, who joined the band in 1987 and remains the longest tenured member, seems to recognize that old wounds may never heal, but said he wants to put things aside for a night to celebrate the history of Sepultura.
“We don’t care who is right or wrong. We’re never gonna get to that point,” Kisser continued in his Moshpit Passion interview. “We have different point of views and different perspectives about same historical events and stuff. So let’s jam, let’s have a good time for the fans, for us, for ourselves, and really close this amazing 43 years or 44, whatever it’s gonna be at the time, in peace with ourselves, and really reach for something different afterwards.”
Sepultura’s final show has yet to be confirmed. The band are currently on their farewell tour in Europe with Jinjer, Obituary and Jesus Piece, and likewise have a few global festival dates scattered throughout 2025. You’ll find more date details over here.
