In a move straight out of an Arthurian fable, perfectly named eight-year-old Saga Vanecek recently stumbled upon a pre–Viking-era sword while swimming in Sweden’s Vidostern Lake on a family holiday. She noticed something that “felt like a stick” and recalls nearly tossing it aside before pulling out the 1,500-year-old weapon, which had likely been brought closer to the surface due to a drought that kept lake water low. The relic is now being kept at the Jönköpings Läns Museum near the lake, where officials note the find is extremely well-preserved. There is currently a further investigation of the lake to see if any other ancient pieces can be dug up.
