Following a series of unabashedly seething hardcore singles, Venice Beach, California, teen crew XCOMM have finally unveiled the details behind their forthcoming debut LP, Time to Burn. Though the record comes out next month, they’re increasing the heat early by leaking a punky rage-out dubbed “Borrowed Happiness.”
The tune follows earlier teases “Reasons,” “Fake ID” and “Hot Pursuit / One and Nothing,” and it finds the group leaning into derelict punk ‘n’ roll licks, feverish four-on-the-floors and another set of caustic cries from lead vocalist Michael Gato.
A new music video, found above and directed by Darren “Fucking” Craig, find the teens slamming through the track while driving around Cali in a shag-lined van.
Per a group statement, producer Ross Robinson (Korn, At the Drive-In) transformed XCOMM “into musical weapons that will blow your head off when you play our record.”
“I’ll forever be grateful for having the opportunity to record this album, the whole process from tracking to mixing was truly incredible,” Gato said. “‘Borrowed Happiness’ is one of my favorite tracks on the record, shooting the music videos with Darren and all the dudes in the van was super cool and I love when we play this one live.”
“Nothing brings me more satisfaction as a producer than sharing that undeniable life force of untainted expression,” Robinson noted in his own statement. “XCOMM, being the youngest band I’ve ever worked with… I had to nickname the studio sessions as ‘daycare.’ It was so fun and alive throughout the whole process. Made me realize on another level how important the pulse of youth truly is.”
The 11-song Time to Burn is out May 22 via Blowed Out Records. It can be pre-ordered now on exclusive blood red vinyl (limited to 200 copies) in Revolver’s shop.
