While they’ve performed “Phantom Lord” a whopping total of 155 times over the course of their 37-year career, Metallica have spent the last half-decade with the Kill ‘Em All track absent from their live set list. All that changed last week when the thrash daddies yanked it out of the archives for their October 25th show at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center, and pro-shot footage of the explosive performance immortalizes the occasion in style.
Multiple cameras capturing cinematic shots converge on each member as they rip through their individual parts of the NWOBHM-tinged cut, showcasing the finely tuned skills of the group amid its latest massive crisscrossing world tour. “Phantom Lord” may have been penned by fellow thrash OG and ex–band member Dave Mustaine, but the current ‘Tallica lineup has cultivated a feel all their own when playing it together.
