It’s been close to two years since Celldweller first teased his Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver – The Dead Shall Rise graphic-novel-and-soundtrack project, but the heavy electronic-music artist has finally turned the corner on the release. For proof, he’s teamed with Revolver to premiere “Elaleth,” a long-promised collaborative track with Trivium bandleader Matthew Kiichi Heafy that appears on the soundtrack.
Celldweller’s full score for The Dead Shall Rise is due out this Thursday (March 18th), but he’s boosting the fantasy series score ahead of time with a metal-crunching, electronics-powered anthem that sonically conjures the “fractured world of Nosgoth.” While created primarily by Celldweller at his new studio, the cut finds Heafy delivering a clutch, string-bending heater of a solo during the finale.
“Right before beginning work on my upcoming album, GOD MODE, I wanted to figure out a workflow in my new studio,” Celldweller tells Revolver. “From running live bass through my Eurorack modular system to making beats with Native Instruments Maschine 3, I got to make cool sounds and figure out signal routing at the same time.
“Throw in the added bonus of having Trivium’s Matthew Kiichi Heafy throwing down his shredding lead in the song, ‘Elaleth’ was officially the first song I ever completed in my new studio.”
Celldweller had previously previewed The Dead Shall Rise soundtrack with a revamp of “Ozar Midrashim,” Legacy of Kain video game character Raziel’s theme. The complete score hits streamers in full on Thursday via the artist’s own FiXT Recordings, in partnership with his Bit Bot Media.
It’s as-yet unclear when the accompanying Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver – The Dead Shall Rise graphic novel will see release, but stay tuned for updates.
