Cult post-hardcore act the Saddest Landscape have detailed their first full-length in over ten years, and it features guest spots from Touché Amoré vocalist Jeremy Bolm, boygenius’ Julien Baker and more. Dubbed Alone With Heaven, the album is being promoted today with the launch of a high-flying song called “From Home They Run.”
Though the new tune arrived on streamers today (January 28th), the Boston, Massachusetts-based foursome had previewed the forthcoming double LP back in November when they’d announced their singing to Iodine Records and released the song “Hexes”. That track had first come out on a limited flexi-disc, but will be included on Alone With Heaven.
As for “From Home They Run,” vocalist-guitarist Andy Maddox praised his bandmates’ presence in the piece, explaining in a press statement that its crashing rhythms and “driving octave chords” ebb and flow “like an emotional wave breaking.” That inspired him to pen its heartfelt, emotionally harrowed lyrics.
“Those of us who live with constant anxiety/depression know those almost divine moments when these issues stop for a moment and one can feel relief even though they will come again,” he summed up of the theme.
The upcoming Alone With Heaven, which follows 2015’sDarkness Forgives, is further said to explore themes of “survival, grief, the ache that follows, and the fragile hope that keeps us pushing through the dark.” The collection was recorded with late engineer and music legend with Steve Albini and Jack Shirley, and features guest spots from Bolm, Baker and Into It. Alone With Heaven is out April 24th via Iodine. An exclusive, pink-hued pressing on cloudy “Where Angels Ascend” vinyl is available to pre-order now in Revolver’s shop.
