The Number Twelve Looks Like You are unleashing joy the only way they know how — through the power of post-hardcore. The veteran New Jersey unit have teamed with Revolver to announced the arrival of their next album, Howls From The Holographic Heart, and they’re broadcasting this news via the transmission of a new, genre-contorting single called “Joy Is a Weapon.”
The new song follows The Number Twelve Looks Like You’s “Indeciso” single from 2025, and comes from the group’s first album since 2019’s Wild Gods. “Joy Is a Weapon” is described in a press release as “a song about refusing to let anger, bitterness or the people who hurt you define who you become.”
“Sometimes the most powerful act of rebellion isn’t fighting back,” the group add in a joint statement, “it’s finding joy any way possible and refusing to be broken.”
At first, it detonates from the speakers with furiously growled vocals, guarana-juiced chugging and mathematically complex bounce-to-blast sections.
It’s a full-on beast of a track, a virulent pit-starter, but then the group exit a progressively djent-drilled into a tropical wonderworld of slick-fingered stand-up bass lines, big brass movements and a glass-raising toast from Foxy Shazam vocalist Eric Nally (“Trumpets bloom where the cities rot, dancing bodies the world forgot/They called it a sin, I called it salsa, ashes into hallelujahs”). It eventually weaves itself through a mix of detuned psych, free-flying shred and double-kicked celebrations.
“This is a very honest album,” frontman Jesse Korman explains of the groundswell of inspiration on the album, writ-large. “We don’t want to live up to what everyone just expects of us, and at this point in our career, we have nothing to lose.”
The new album arrives October 16th through Equal Vision Records. Guitarist-keyboardist Alexis Pareja co-produced the album with Jeremy Cormitas (Senses Fail, Chiodos) and Trae Titus.

On top of the new album, The Number Twelve Looks Like You launch a 20th anniversary tour behind their third album, Mongrel, in October. They’re joined on select dates by Kaonashi, Blind Equation and Differences.
