The Devil Wears Prada are ready to give us our Flowers.
The long-running, pop-texturized metalcore vets have announced they have a new LP dubbed Flowers heading our way this fall, and they’re celebrating that fact by blossoming up two early previews: “Where the Flowers Never Grow” and “Wave.”
The two songs are on streamers, and are likewise being presented through a new short film entitled That Same Place Where the Flowers Never Grow. The former hits a pensive, yet anthemic feel that begins with light and airy piano, follows through with a mass-melodic chorus, and then works its way towards a noise-drilled breakdown. “Wave” acts as a more minimal, effects-jangled comedown.
“‘Where The Flowers Never Grow’ is a song about the realization that no matter how good things get from the outside, there is a still a place of darkness in our minds… the place where flowers never grow,” guitarist and clean vocalist Jeremy DePoyster offered in a statement.
He adds: “The hours spent away from the stage and the bright lights can be a lonely place. The lyrics are a reckoning with how you can receive everything you thought you wanted, but you still have to reckon with the intrusive thoughts of emptiness and old wounds that you’re trying to find a way to heal.
“My hope is that anyone who hears the song feels seen, that they’re not alone in the darkest corners of their mind, and that we’re all trying to find a way forward.”
As for the rest of the record, DePoyster went on to describe their Flowers as encapsulating various personal highs and lows, while “reckoning with what it means be a human catapulting through the chaos that life throws at us continually.” The album also features recent spring singles “For You” and “Ritual.”
Flowers is out November 14th through Solid State Records. A pre-order on exclusive tangerine, baby blue and bone smash-colored vinyl — limited to 500 copies — is up now in Revolver’s shop.
