Building off the hype of their several multi-million-streaming singles, Memphis, Tennessee, nu-rock quartet Sleep Theory have finally unveiled plans for their full-length debut. The band’s forthcoming and much-anticipated album will be titled Afterglow, and they’re putting the shine on it early via new single “Static.”
The track has been unveiled in a new music video that finds the foursome crunching out the number for some fans in a neon-violet-hued club.
Musically, “Static” delivers a mix of four-on-the-floor dance-metal beats and nu-heavy hooks. Lead vocalist Cullen Moore delivers Auto-Tune-warped melodies about being overstimulated by life and what it’s like being unable to hide from the static in his mind. Guitarist Daniel Pruitt throws some growls on the bridge, amid grotesque chromatic chunkery, record scratches and layers of hyper-manic synth-screeching.
As for Afterglow as a whole, the 12-song album was produced by David Cowell and mixed by Zakk Cervini (Bring Me the Horizon, Bad Omens, Architects), and it includes 2024 singles “Stuck in My Head” and “Paralyzed.” It likewise features the songs “Fallout” and “Numb,” which had both appeared on the band’s breakthrough 2023 EP, Paper Hearts.
Afterglow is due out May 16th via Epitaph Records. An exclusive variant on yellow and purple swirl vinyl, limited to 300 copies, is up for pre-order now in Revolver’s shop.
