Turnstile vocalist Brendan Yates let guitar distortion and drums fall by the wayside while performing a tender piano version of Glow On number “UNDERWATER BOI” in New York City last night (December 17th).
The stripped-down performance took place at the Skirball Center for The Performing Arts as part of the annual “Ally Coalition Talent Show” benefit concert for LGBTQ youth, and it found Yates joined by musician Liam Benzvi.
Their “UNDERWATER BOI” takes on a different flavor, with Yates pushing the arrangement up a few keys, and letting his vocal soar above his lithe fingerwork on the ivories. Benzvi hit some backups, but then took the lead on the mic when they performed one of his originals, “Hiccup.”

Last night’s Ally Coalition Talent Show also featured performances from pop star Sabrina Carpenter, Phish’s Trey Anastasio, Remi Wolf, Bleachers, Claud, comedian Mike Birbiglia and more.
While Turnstile released their collaborative New Heart Designs EP with jazzy Canadians BadBadNotGood in 2023, a follow-up full-length to 2021’s much-loved Glow On has yet to be announced.
