Spiritbox’s weekend appearance at Kentucky’s Louder Than Life festival was primed to be a highlight no matter what, with the djent-forward outfit currently riding high off their recent, heavy-as-hell “Soft Spine” single, among other things. But the Canadian-formed combo upped the ante in Louisville by inviting up a murderer’s row of guest vocalists on-stage to scream along, including Poppy and Jinjer’s Tatiana Shmayluk.
Yesterday’s (September 29th) performance at Highland Festival Grounds found Spiritbox dropping into an eight-song setlist that kicked off with a trio of cuts from last year’s The Fear of Fear EP as per usual. But when they slammed into new tune “Soft Spine,” they opted to invite Poppy — who was also playing LTL — out to tag-team some vicious screams with the band’s Courtney LaPlante.
From there, Spiritbox’s collab-heavy performance brought out Architects’ Sam Carter to hit the mic for “Yellowjacket,” the song he co-sung on Spiritbox’s Eternal Blue album, and then Jinjer vocalist Shmayluk got in on the fun one song later by adding her signature growl to “Circle with Me.” It helped that all of these guest vocalists were also playing Louder Than Life with their respective projects, but a cool series of on-stage collabs, nonetheless.
