Following up on one of 2024’s most-talked about heavy music moments, Poppy returned to Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night (March 10th) to perform her Negative Spaces track “The Cost of Giving Up.”
The talk show appearance marked Poppy’s comeback to the program following last November’s heavy, zeitgeist-tapping, and kinda controversial performance of “Suffocate” with Knocked Loose. Unlike that outdoor performance, Poppy hit the studio for her live version of “The Cost of Giving Up,” standing dead center in a pile of foliage while gripping the mic with full-length gloves.
Her band kind of took a cue from the Marvel Universe’s Tracksuit Mafia, crunching through the nu-rock-anthemic chorus while decked out in star-pocked athleticwear and sparkling balaclavas.
While Poppy’s song initially presents itself as a much more melodic offering than “Suffocate,” the chorus does allude to things getting heavy—and indeed, by the time the bridge swung around, Poppy flipped the script with a round of diaphragm-strengthening shrieks.

As previously reported, Poppy launches her “They’re All Around Us” North American tour today (March 11th) at the Fillmore in San Franciso, California. The 28-show trek heads east, then and into Canada, and then loops back for an April 23rd closer at Los Angeles, California’s Wiltern Theater.
