A Chilean model brought big growls to the Miss Mundo Chile beauty pageant over the weekend while singing an original song from her progressive death-metal group, Decessus, on national television.
Ignacia Fernández founded Decessus in 2020, and is currently trying to become Miss Mundo Chile, representing the Las Condes district in this year’s pageant. She also hopes to represent her country at a future Miss Universe event.
Last Sunday (November 2nd), for the semi-finals, Fernández took the stage with Decessus guitarist Carlos Palma and hit a bunch of gutturals while wearing a fancy gown. The supporting guitarist deep-djented through a series of riffs, as you can see via the player above.
The performance, which yielded a standing ovation, has pushed Fernández into the final round of 20 contestants, which is set to crown Miss Mundo Chile this Sunday (November 9th).
“Metal has been a fundamental part of who I am as a person and in my life: a refuge, a source of strength and purpose,” Fernández wrote in an Instagram post, adding of flexing her death growls on TV, “Being able to express it on stage at Chilevision and Miss Mundo Chile was an opportunity I deeply value.
“It was a great experience to break down barriers on open television, inspire, be real with it and show that you don’t have to fear the prejudices of others.”
Since founding in 2020, the Santiago, Chile-based Decessus have opened for the likes of Jinjer, Epica, Fleshgod Apocalypse and more. The band most recently issued their “Dark Flames” single in September, which you can check out down below.
