If sace6’s recent “ego” single for Sumerian Records had you instantly craving more from the the darkly melodic R&B-metal duo, we’ve got some good news for you: the band have just delivered a crooned-and-djented cut called “covet,” which teases their upcoming album, brutalist.
The new song mixes hard-slammed post-hardcore grooves with rhythmically bobbing beats producer-guitarist Noah Thomas is thwapping out on a drum pad — at least until he starts unleashing dramatically detuned, melancholically-informed riffage. Vocalist sace. holds it down with a lovely, lithe and lilting vibrato that contrast lyrics around emotional exhaustion and frustrations over someone who is merely in love with the idea of being in love.
The duo explained of the origins of “covet”: “remaining anchored to the definition of the word, this song is an audible representation for jealousy, wanting what/who someone else has to the point of being inept at moving within my own connection.”
A black-and-white performance video finds the act booming through the tune in an opulently tiled-and-pillared room. As in the “ego” video, Thomas starts spin-kicking and jumping once the heavier riffs come in.
sace6’s brutalist is out May 8th via Sumerian. An exclusive pre-order for the LP on limited “Black in Silver in Cloudy Clear” vinyl has already sold out, though other vinyl variants and CD copies can be pre-ordered here.
