Rush opened their “Fifty Something” tour in Inglewood, California last night (June 7th), marking the prog greats’ first full performance since 2015.
The concert at the Kia Forum was subdivided into a pair of sets, and they first said hello with A Farewell to Kings’ “Xanadu”.
As previously reported, the current lineup of founding guitarist Alex Lifeson, founding bassist-vocalist Geddy Lee and new drummer Anika Nilles performed in public at the Juno Awards in Canada earlier in the spring to play “Finding My Way,” the first song off Rush’s 1974 debut album. They didn’t hit that in Inglewood, but the monolithic set stretched back to their debut’s “Working Man,” and ran all the way towards a pair of songs off Rush’s last full-length, 2012’s Clockwork Angels.
The night also featured a number of fan-favorites and rock radio staples like “Tom Sawyer,” “Limelight,” “The Spirit of the Radio,” “Subdivisions,” “YYZ” and more. The second set include a suite from 2112, while the night also included a tribute to late drummer Neil Peart, and a collaborative performance of “Time Stand Still” with Aimee Mann.
The encore comprised frost-bitten prog pounder “By-Tor and the Snow Dog” and the aforementioned “Working Man.”
