Queens of the Stone Age have been forced to cancel the rest of their European tour dates this month so that bandleader Josh Homme can undergo “emergency surgery.”
The group revealed the news earlier today (July 9th) over social media, with a statement explaining that Homme “must return to the United States immediately for emergency surgery.” They added that while “every effort was made to push through and play… it is no longer an option to continue.”
They added in an Instagram caption: “Queens are gutted we aren’t able to play for you. We apologize for any inconvenience and share in your frustration and disappointment.”
The dates affected are a mix of festival and headlining appearances between July 10th-27th, which would have brought Queens through France, Slovakia, Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Romania, Croatia and Greece. This follows QOTSA pulling out of a July 5th performance at the AMA Festival in Bassano Del Grappa, Italy, over an unspecified illness, though the band resumed the tour in Milan the next night.
Last week, Homme had also announced in a press conference that Queens were due to perform within Paris’ famed underground Catacombs sometime this week, though the full details of that performance had yet to be revealed.
For the time being, the rest of their summer tour plans, as well as a short run of U.S. dates in September and October, remain in place. The updated tour schedule is down below.
