We hope you’re feeling hungry: Vinnie Paul’s cookbook is finally hitting shelves this year.
A long-in-the-works recipe compendium fittingly titled Drumming Up an Appetite With Vinnie Paul is set to arrive March 11th via Z2 Books. It’s a cookbook that the late Pantera and Hellyeah time-keeper had been planning for years, with the posthumous collection celebrating the memory of the iconic drummer as well as his epicurean taste.
“My cookbook will be called Drumming Up an Appetite With Vinnie Paul. How clever is that,” he said of the project back in 2015. “It’s got a picture of me sitting behind a drum set. I’m holding two turkey legs, which are otherwise known as drum sticks!”
Sure enough, said illustration is mounted on the jacket art, as rendered by Erik Rodriguez, while inside Vinnie’s recipes are seperated off into a series Pantera-punnin’ sections: main courses (Reinventing the Meal), side dishes (Far Beyond Kitchen) and desserts (A Vulgar Display of Flour).
“It’s all about cooking and having fun with it,” Paul had previously said. “A lot of people think cooking is throwing something in the microwave. It’s something that you’ve really got to be passionate about, just like playing an instrument. If you put your heart and soul into it, and then you feed it to people… it makes you feel good. It’s just like playing music. [People say] ‘G-damn, I love this shit!’”
“Vinnie’s BBQ action was most definitely not your average lineup,” the drummer’s best friend and personal assistant Brian “Bridog” Jones, who wrote an afterword for the book, added in a recent statement. “Whether it be at his Texas or Vegas casas, or on the road prepping and cooking for all the bands and crew and even the local venue personnel, his spread was legendary! Lots of very hard work from myself and many others made this book possible. Vinnie’s recipes are now being offered to the world!”
The book likewise features a foreword from friend and comedian Carrot Top, photography from Justin Borucki, and additional illustrations by Danny Hellman, Steve Chanks and Rob Schwager.
