They say that music soothes the savage beast, and a new study now suggests that Linkin Park is the most relieving heavy band folks turn to when they’re feeling stressed out.
The new report comes from Tebra — a healthcare software developer that produces independent medical studies — who polled 1,000 people around the U.S. about their listening habits when they need to cope with stress and “overwhelming moments.” It’s also listed in their study that they analyzed data from 155,626 tracks across 560 public stress-relief and mental health playlists.
Of their findings, they discovered that “certain songs and musical styles consistently appear when listeners seek emotional relief.”
Likewise, they found per their survey that music was the No. 1 tool people used to de-stress their day, coming up tops for 35 percent of the responders, followed up by exercise (27 percent) and watching TV or a movie. Additionally, 72 percent of the people polled said that listening to a song “meaningfully improved” their mental health.
In terms of who they’re cueing up, Americans ranked Linkin Park, Adele and Taylor Swift as the top artists they turn to in their time of need — Linkin, in particular, were listed as the top “self-reported artist people listen to for stress relief.”
When it came to the streaming specifics, the rock bands that showed up the most on stress-relief playlists included Radiohead, Deftones and Linkin Park. Alice in Chains, Slipknot and Metallica were the metal bands that appeared the most on mental-health related playlists.
