MILITARIE GUN announce new album with punchy anthem “B A D I D E A”

Militarie Gun are all fired up and ready to go. Following last year’s “Thought You Were Waving” single, the pop-forward post-hardcore favorites have announced they’re jumping back into the album game with a new longplayer titled God Save the Gun.

Today’s (August 12th) announcement confirms that the band’s next LP, the proper follow-up to 2023’s Life Under the Gun, is due October 17th via Loma Vista. They’ve also just delivered a vice-centered new music video for punchy and power-chord-poppy first single “B A D I D E A,” with the visuals being directed by frontman, songwriter and filmmaker Ian Shelton.

“I wanted to make a video that was a celebration of vices, a new iteration of yourself looking back at a moment you made a mistake while never truly reflecting,” he commented. “This was the most technically challenging video we’ve ever done and it only fits a song spelling out the words ‘bad idea.’

The song arrives with plenty of signature, Shelton-style “ughs,” handclaps, synths and more, and also points to the personal nature of his lyrics on God Save the Gun. Lyrically, the album is said to be “an absurdist guide to the intersection of self-destruction and self-belief,” with Shelton personally taking stock of addiction struggles he’s had.

“I’m well aware that being this vulnerable turns my personal trauma into a marketing hook for this album. But I’m fine with it, if not provoking it,” he added.

“Over the past couple years, as I spoke about addiction from the perspective of someone affected by it, I became the one struggling with it. There’s a farcical logic to entering a situation, fully knowing the consequences, and doing it anyway — but that’s where my head was when I started leaning on drinking.”
