Metallica officially launched their new Sirius XM channel last night (August 28th) with an intimate, 250-cap performance at Amagansett, New York’s Stephen Talkhouse — giving fans a rare opportunity to see the band hit heavy classics in a small room.
As previously reported, the Long Island show was held to celebrate ‘Tallica’s new Maximum Metallica channel on Sirius. Tickets were available through a giveaway, but the crowd also included fans like Paul McCartney, Howard Stern, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, Sylvester Stallone, Michael J. Fox, wrestler Chris Jericho and more.
The band rode into their 14-song set with Lightning-era masterpieces “Creeping Death” and “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” though the set was also loaded with Kill ‘Em All rippers (“Seek & Destroy”) “Black Album” anthems (“Wherever I May Roam,” “Enter Sandman”) and Reload’s “Fuel.”
Guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo also used the long-established “doodle” portion of the set to honor the late Ozzy Osbourne with a performance of “Crazy Train” — a song the bassist would be well familiar with, owing to his long run as the Prince of Darkness’ rhythm-stringer. The crowd sang along almost immediately.

The Maximum Metallica channel is on the air as of right now. And if you missed the chance to see their Long Island set up-close, the show will begin streaming on Maximum Metallica on Monday, September 1st at 12 p.m. ET. It will also be rebroadcast throughout the week.
Additionally, the Talkhouse set will be streamed through Howard Stern’s SiriusXM channel on Friday, September 5th at 7 p.m. ET and PT, and it’ll also be available on the SiriusXM app.
