Metallica threw their fourth Helping Hands Concert & Auction yesterday (December 13th), at L.A.’s YouTube Theater, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the band’s All Within My Hands foundation. The non-profit, which was founded in 2017, is “dedicated to creating sustainable communities by supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger and other critical local services.”
Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, this year’s benefit event welcomed a wide array of famous attendees, including Aquaman himself Jason Mamoa and Rage Against the Machine guitar wizard Tom Morello, both of whom walked the black carpet.
As for the performers, classically trained violin-and-cello duo SistaStrings opened the show, followed by the all-star quartet of Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani and Kenny Aronoff.
As at the previous Helping Hands show, held in 2022, the headliners played a special two-part acoustic/electric set. The acoustic performance featured unique arrangements and covers, including the debut of a ‘Tallica take on Bachman–Turner Overdrive’s “Away From Home.” The electrified segment, meanwhile, boasted a cameo by Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament, who jumped into the fire for a ripping rendition of “Hit the Lights.”
