METALLICA announce first-ever immersive concert film

At this year’s South by Southwest conference, Metallica and Apple unveiled a groundbreaking collab. In a chat with Zane Lowe, Lars revealed the band’s latest venture: Metallica, an Apple Immersive concert experience, launching on March 14th exclusively for Apple Vision Pro. Filmed at the final stop of Metallica’s M72 tour in Mexico City, the high-tech concert film promises to gives fans a front-row seat to full performances of iconic tracks like “Whiplash,” “One” and “Enter Sandman” — all captured in ultra-detailed Apple Immersive Video.

Using ultra-high-res 180-degree video and Spatial Audio, the experience is said to put fans right in the action, from the wild energy of the Snake Pit to sweeping wide-angle shots of the entire stage. It wasn’t easy to pull off — Apple set up a custom stage layout, with 14 specialized Apple Immersive Video cameras, including stabilized cams, cable-suspended rigs and remote-controlled dolly systems that glided across the stage.

And for those who can’t wait to dive into the sound, Metallica Live from Mexico City, an EP featuring the full concert in Spatial Audio, will be available on Apple Music this Friday.

Starting March 14th, you can get a taste of the immersive concert experience with an extended preview of Metallica at Apple Store demo locations worldwide. For those lucky enough to be in one of the 11 countries with Apple Vision Pro availability (Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, the UAE, the UK and the US), you can book a free demo through the Apple Store.
