Maynard James Keenan is growing the Queen B brand in Cottonwood, Arizona. After opening the Queen B Vinyl Café in the region in 2024, the TOOL, Puscifer and A Perfect Circle vocalist and his wife, Jennifer Keenan, have now revealed plans to open a satellite sushi restaurant called Queen B Sushi.
The Keenans have been teasing the food spot over socials, and it turns out that the new restaurant is opening just around the corner from Queen B Vinyl Café, a coffee roaster that also sells records and has hosted performances from the likes of Khemmis, Author & Punisher and more.
The sushi joint opens in Old Town Cottonwood on September 4th, and it’s being led by Culinary Director Chef Brett Vibber (Roka Akor). It’s added that the Keenan’s had contemplated adding a sushi menu to Queen B Vinyl Café, but they put those initial plans on pause until they could find the right chef.
“Although I’ve been enjoying sushi since my days in Boston, circa 1987, my first Japanese tour wasn’t until 2000 with A Perfect Circle,” Maynard James Keenan notes in a statement. “It was an eye opening and mind-blowing experience. While there, I picked up these amazing titanium and hard wood travel chopsticks from Snow Peak. And I’ve carried them with me ever since.
“Last year I ran into Janeane Garofalo at the Chelsea in NYC. She was saying to David Cross and Dave Hill, ‘I haven’t seen Maynard in several years but one thing I remember is that he used to carry chopsticks in his pocket.’ At which point I reached into my pocket and pulled them out. Twenty-five years I’ve been carrying these chopsticks. That’s how much I love sushi.”
Further tying things into their cottage industry, the Keenans confirm that the restaurant will be serving wines from their Caduceus Cellars and Merkin Vineyards. You’ll get a taste of their menu of maki, sashimi and nigiri options — and more — over here.
