Though Mastodon and Lamb of God may have only just recently wrapped their joint “Ashes of Leviathan” summer tour, the two iconic metal forces are keeping the party going a little longer. Specifically, the bands have announced that a new collaborative project titled “Floods of Triton” is heading our way this Thursday (September 12th).
Though the details have yet to drop in full, both acts began teasing a collaboration last week through their respective social media presences. In particular, an animated visualizer presented a mountainside getting hammered with waves, with a caption reading: “A flood is coming…and most of you will die.” Both bands’ names were listed beneath this, as well as the roman numerals IX.XII.MMXXIV (or, rather, September 12th, 2024).
Now, they’ve have further confirmed through an artwork upload that whatever is coming this Thursday is titled “Floods of Triton.” The artwork portrays a Poseidon-like ghoul ominously blowing into a conch, as a bunch of watery sea-horses (who are giving off mad Remission vibes) stampede out of the crashing waves.
It’s unclear at the moment whether this is a new single, or a full-fledged collaborative project from the bands. It’s worth nothing that the color scheme of the “Floods of Triton” artwork also corresponds to the “Ashes of Leviathan” promo artwork, so perhaps this was something they’d worked on while out on the road. Only time will tell!
