Serving it straight off the grill and deep into your earholes, Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst and pop-and-hip-hop artist Lauren Sanderson have teamed-up to deliver a feisty remix of the latter’s nu-metal-bangin’ single “COME SAY SUM.”
The track first popped off in late March, and Sanderson spiked her “Lez Bikit”-styled original with rap-rock swagger and lines about those that want to freak her “meat.” A press release explains that the song was inspired by Bizkit’s “Break Stuff” — and, even more specifically, the time the band erupted into a riotous performance of the Significant Other tune at Woodstock ’99.
Sanderson’s “COME SAY SUM” took off online, which is ultimately how she and Durst connected for the remix, with the two vocalists exchanging a few messages over Instagram before Durst leaned into the frequency. Sanderson teased the collab on IG by noting that she’d secured “the best Fred verse of all time” for the updated “COME SAY SUM,” a song rooted in “talking your shit and owning your truth.”
“Did I know this song had magic in it? Yes. Did I think Fred Durst would discover it and bring my Lez Bizkit dreams to life? Probably not,” she commented.
Sanderson added: “Ever since the first conversation Fred and I had, I knew this friendship was created by the universe. Some people just have that magic, and when you put Fred & I together… We are what you call a serendipitous collision.”
Following the original, performance-styled vid — in which Sanderson briefly wore a Durst-like red baseball cap — the pair have now delivered a second video that has them handling a hectic shift at a local diner. Durst mans the grill before spitting hot fire, while Sanderson begins the vid taking orders before commanding the room on her own.
You can catch them diving into the chaotic diner performance up above.
Sanderson’s upcoming LAUREN album is described as “a maximalist cocktail of nu-metal ambiance, bratty pop flippancy, and killer lyrical wordplay.” The 10-song collection is due out May 29th.
Later this year, Sanderson opens a pair of dates with Limp Bizkit, which take place October 11th and 12th at the Truth in Nashville, Tennessee.
The “COME SAY SUM” remix marks the second Durst guest spot this spring, following his “Fix Ur Face” collab with Machine Gun Kelly.
