Life of Agony vocalist Keith Caputo is in the process of detransitioning, citing that he has been “cured” of his gender dysphoria and has changed his name back to Keith.
The LOA singer — who came out as Mina Caputo in 2011 — made the announcement over Instagram yesterday (November 19th). In a revealing, heartfelt 13-minute video, Caputo explained that he will be “physically completely detransitioned” by next year. A surgery has been booked to remove Caputo’s breast implants, though apparently the musician has been off hormone therapy for years already.
“Yes. I’m off of hormones six, seven years now,” Caputo confirmed (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). “And this January 2025, I am… my surgery has been booked to remove my fake breasts and I will be lovingly living in my divine male self. I’ve cured my gender dysphoria. It took many years, a lot of walking through the fire, but I rose above my misunderstandings of my soul and my spirit.”
Caputo noted that the detransitioning process has been going on since the making of Life of Agony’s A Place Where There’s No More Pain in 2016, and the vocalist has been “existing in a different… more healed version of myself” in the intervening years.
“I’ve had gender dysphoria for 40-plus, for as long as I can remember. I’m gonna be 51. I’ve had it my whole life, and I’m very happy I never had parents that made any decisions for me because now at 50, almost 51, I can’t even find the dysphoria anymore.”
Caputo added: “And now my flesh suit, my flesh vessel is living in an older version now, ’cause I have the fake boobs and they gotta come out and I gotta live now in my new authentic self. And that’s why what they’re doing today is disgusting, and I wanted to make a little jam about it. I’m gonna go deeper and deeper and deeper, but not now. I’m tired.
Throughout the rest of the video, which you can watch in full up above, Caputo goes on to discuss a wide range of topics including surgical procedures, battling gender dysphoria, emotional trauma, and how he’s “very against transitioning children medically and especially surgically.”
Earlier this month, ahead of the U.S. presidential election, Caputo took to Instagram to show support for Donald Trump, because of his plan to “stop the chemical, physical and emotional mutilation of our youth” and the promise to “revoke Joe Biden’s cruel policies on so-called ‘gender affirming care’ — a process that includes giving kids puberty blockers, mutating their physical appearance, and ultimately performing surgery on minor children.”
LOA most recently released the Halloween single “The Crow (In Memory of B.L.),” a grunge-goth tribute to Brandon Lee and the original Crow movie. The band’s last album was 2019’s The Sound of Scars, a sequel to their classic 1993 album, River Runs Red.
