Knocked Loose and Poppy set it off big time with their late night television appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier this week. And while it was a huge moment for hardcore, a number of regular Kimmel viewers were not as stoked to see the Kentucky crew crush it on-air — and they want a “formal apology.”
As previously reported, Knocked Loose brought out Poppy to perform their Grammy-nominated single “Suffocate” for the Tuesday night (November 26th) broadcast, with the band going on to also play “Don’t Reach for Me,” “Moss Covers All,” “Take Me Home” and “Sit & Mourn” for the outdoor crowd.
While the pit was going off, a handful of viewers took to Facebook to suggest that Knocked Loose, ahem, go before they were supposed to. The cause for concern, to them, was the mix screaming, moshing and guitar “junt”-ing.
“You know I was trying to enjoy the program. I was sitting on the couch with my son who is an ADOLESCENT waiting to see the musical guest because we like the nice music the show usually books,” one viewer wrote on Facebook, per The Mirror. “By the third or fourth ‘JUNT’ my son was in tears. He doesn’t like scary things and quite frankly I think the Kimmel show and its staff should make a formal apology.”
Another Facebook commenter wrote: “How do I sing along with this??? Lol sounds just like a screaming frenzy to me!! Actually starting to hurt my ears!! People who listen to this have no room to complain about crying babies or screaming two year olds taking a tantrum!! Ha ha unreal!!! They call this music Jimmy??”
Yet another chimed in: “What’s with all the screaming and spewing Gibberish in the name of music. There’s absolutely nothing appealing about this genre of music, also the crowd responding to this crazy Woke musical genre all need to visit Shrinks.”
Despite such detractors, Knocked Loose and Poppy made a tremendous impression with their performance. The official YouTube player for “Suffocate” on Kimmel has already hit more than 544 thousand views, while the same Facebook thread found Periphery/Haunted Shores guitarist Misha Mansoor chiming in, “Goddamn you love to see it! And such a legit band too!” Metalcore group Attack Attack! likewise offered: “Big moment for heavy music.”
