Wage War have just returned with another metalcore death threat. Ahead of dropping their STIGMA album in full, the Floridian undertakers are happily piledriving us right into their “TOMBSTONE.”
While the track starts off with a leanly ominous synth drone, and includes a micro-sized taste of a classic drum-and-bass break, “TOMBSTONE” isn’t as wholly industrial-crushed as last month’s “NAIL5” single. Instead, the band lean into piston-pumping metal punishment, the hammered-down drums and grody squeals of its mosh-maniacal outro uprooting Wage War from the Florida everglades to plunge them into a Texas-style flood.
Lyrically, Briton Bond mans the battle anthem with sure-shotted Old West gunplay, ultimately dealing a losing hand to some spineless fool he’s about to drop into a pine box. You can check it all out in the visualizer up above.
“Metal riffs meet country western tropes in our new track ‘TOMBSTONE,'” the band explained succinctly in a joint statement. “A final showdown with an enemy. One fight. Two dogs unleashed.”
As previously reported, STIGMA drops digitally June 21st via Fearless Records, with vinyl set to drop a little later in the year, on September 6th. Variants of Wage War’s fifth album include an exclusive “mineral” vinyl colorway, which is limited to 500 copies, and is available only through Revolver’s shop and those of our sister brands, Alternative Press and BrooklynVegan.
