Underoath’s “heavy as shit” new album is almost here.
Coming off nearly a year’s worth of single drops that ran the gamut from super-pissed-off pit starters to pop-tronic synth-esthesia, the long-running post-hardcore outfit have finally unveiled the full details behind their next album, which is officially titled The Place After This One. And to mark the occasion, they’ve also delivered another pre-release single: “All the Love is Gone.”
The new track is another worlds-merging cut from Underoath, ultimately stitching together electronic beatwork, crushing hardcore drums, big-time chorus hooks and the patented sung-and-screamed dynamic between drummer Aaron Gillespie and Spencer Chamberlain. The latter noted in a press release that the song was partially inspired by the electronic sounds of artists like the Prodigy, the Chemical Brothers, Noisia and Justice.
The video, which you’ll find above, merges hyperactive performance footage with a storyline of car-crash survivors running through the woods. As you’ll discover things get pretty heated by the end of the video. Some of Chamberlain’s lines hint at a broader situational disorientation (“I lost my wallet / Can’t find my keys”).
“Lyrically, I wrote it from the place I used to go whenever something went wrong in my life, which I think we can all relate to. It’s a place I now consciously avoid when things fall apart. But it’s that moment when everything in your life has fallen apart, you’re at the bar, and you just don’t care anymore,” Chamberlain explained.
“Maybe it’s the end of a relationship, the loss of a friend or family member, or you just got fired—whatever it may be, we’ve all had a night like this. It’s a scary feeling, and it’s a place I never want to go back to, but that’s the song in a nutshell. It’s pretty on the nose, so to speak, but I felt like I needed to write it down to remind myself to never go there again.”
As for the rest of The Place After This One, the band’s 12-song follow-up to 2022’s Voyeurist does in fact contain recent singles “Generation No Surrender,” “Survivor’s Guilt” and “Teeth.” It likewise includes a new cut called “Vultures” that features a guest spot from Mastodon’s Troy Sanders.
The Place After This One sees release March 28th via MNRK Heavy. An exclusive variant of the LP on transcluscent red with black splatter vinyl is up for pre-order now over in Revolver’s shop.
As previously reported, Underoath have a run of Australian tour dates coming up, and will likewise be hitting North American venues on multiple upcoming legs of Papa Roach and Rise Against’s Rise of the Roach tour.
