After exclaiming that she was death in the Pretty Reckless’ most recent rock single, Taylor Momsen is now reminding us that she was also Cindy Lou Who in 2000’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas movie. And this holiday season, she’s revisiting heartfelt soundtrack ballad “Where Are You Christmas” for her upcoming Taylor Momsen’s Pretty Reckless Christmas EP.
The forthcoming release features an updated version of the balladic yuletide number, which finds Momsen duetting with her childhood self. But the song also cranks it up, compared to the original Grinch number, with the Pretty Reckless delivering a double-dose of distorted guitars and sleigh-dashing rock solos as co-vocalists Momsen and Momsen work through the re-arranging.
“Revisiting ‘Where Are You Christmas’ 25 years later feels like coming home to a part of myself I hadn’t seen in a long time,” the current day Momsen said in a statement. “I was just a child when I first sang it, and I never could’ve imagined the way the song, and the film, would stay with people for so long and unknowingly shape my career path as an adult.
“Recording it now, with all the life I’ve lived in between, I hear it through a different lens.. but the heart of it is the same. It’s about wonder, hope, and holding on to the magic – something I think we all need more than ever.”
Beyond the Grinch-y update, Taylor Momsen’s Pretty Reckless Christmas also features a handful of original Christmas songs from the Pretty Reckless. You’ll find the tracklisting details and cover art down below.
While some would argue that Halloween night (October 31st) is Grinch Night, you can get into the Holiday spirit early by giving Momsen’s Christmas a spin digitally that day.
The physical editions are set to arrive November 14th via Fearless Records, though vinyl copies on both “Translucent Emerald” and “Translucent Ruby”-colored wax, as well as the CD, are currently up for pre-order in Revolver’s shop.
