Taylor Momsen is searching for salvation in the latest single from the Pretty Reckless, the doomily soul-searching title track to the band’s upcoming Dear God.
The latest album preview — following previous teases “For I Am Death,” “When I Wake Up” and “Love Me” — takes on dark and crunchy textures, presenting itself as a lean, hard-bluesing epic full of gloom-peggiated guitar work. Above all that, Momsen invokes raspy, reflective, melodic, from-the-source pleas to an unknown power while contemplating sobriety and the passage of time (“Dear God, can you lift me up/Keep me from the fire”).
“The reason it’s called Dear God is because it’s a plea — it’s a prayer — but that [word] God can mean anything. It’s not literal. It’s dealing with a way grander concept,” Momsen recently told Revolver of the broader album themes, in our recent cover story with the Pretty Reckless. “I just grew up with Christianity, so that’s the imagery I associate with it.”

As previously reported, the album is out June 26th via Fearless Records.
