The HU hit the road with Iron Maiden today (October 4th) as part of the latter’s ongoing “The Future Past Tour,” and to celebrate, the Mongolian folk-metal titans have unveiled a newly configured, yet classic battle anthem they may bring to the stage this fall. In a fitting tribute to their tour hosts, the HU have unleashed a new version of Maiden’s Piece of Mind favorite, “The Trooper.”
In the hands of the HU, the Irons-raising British calvary song sounds both fresh and familiar. It retains the galloping pace of the original, most notably. But instead of Bruce Dickinson fog-horning his way through scenes of muskets-raising battle action, we have a trio of Hu members growling out the lines in Mongolian, while that skies-soaring Dave Murray guitar solo is now being masterfully, and manically bowed out on a Morin Khuur.
“The Hu is thrilled to be on Iron Maiden’s Future Past Tour in North America,” the HU’s throat Singer and Morin Khuur player Gala said in a statement. “For us, this tour represents an important milestone for the Mongolian music industry and a historical step towards world stage. As a special thank you, and out of huge respect as fans of the band, we covered their legendary song ‘The Trooper’ and are happy to be sharing that with you ahead of this tour!”

“Iron Maiden are the masters of rock music and one of our biggest inspirations,” the band’s Enkush previously wrote in a statement following the initial tour announcement, which, now that we think about it, kind of telegraphed this cover. “I still remember the first time I heard their ‘Trooper’ song and felt the deep energy behind each word. Something about their rhythm hits so close to home.”
As previously reported, the HU will be hitting a number of North American arenas alongside Iron Maiden this fall, though they are also sneaking in a few headline shows of their own. You’ll find the full run of dates down below.
