While influential post-hardcore outfit Superheaven spent much of the past two years celebrating the 10th anniversary of their JAR album, the group are now ready to enter their next phase. Marking their first new music in almost a decade, the band’s “Long Gone” single is streaming now.
The track, which was unveiled via the music video up above, is part of a two-song single being issued December 10th through new label home Blue Grape Music. Both “Long Gone” and “Numb to What Is Real” were engineered by guitarist Jake Clarke and drummer Zack Robbins at the latter’s Metal Shop studio before being mixed by Rich Costey (Foo Fighters, Rage Against The Machine).
The song is a serene, grunge-gaze groover full of blown-out guitar melodies and vocals about “drifting through the great unknown.” The video, meanwhile, finds Superheaven in the roles of a bunch of office jockeys being dramatically pulled into their latest work project. There’s likewise a bit of release-date meta-commentary, considering how they’re all studying up on “fourth quarter objectives.”
It’s explained that the recent anniversary dates behind JAR were the impetus for Superheaven writing new music.
“We did the JAR 10-year show and that was really exciting to see that there was still interest in the band,” Clarke said in a statement, adding, “then that fall we played a few more shows and they were even crazier. It really made us realize that people really love this band and these songs we’d made.”
“Hearing the demo back for the first time was really inspiring,” Robbins added of the experience. “To hear us making something new, but to have it still really feel like our sound.”
“Long Gone” is officially streaming now, but you might be able to hear “Numb to What Is Real” ahead of the official release date by catching Superheaven on their upcoming tour with the Story So Far and Koyo. You’ll find the date details below.
