After body-slamming the scene with Spiritbox’s Tsunami Sea album earlier this year — and following more recent collabs with BABYMETAL, as well as Amy Lee and Poppy — powerhouse vocalist Courtney LaPlante has now unveiled a new track to support fighting video game 2KXO. The battle anthem arrives under the title “Ties That Bind.”
A press release explains that Riot Games tapped LaPlante in to deliver the official “cinematic theme” to the upcoming, free-to-play 2v2 team-based fighting game — which features a roster of characters from League of Legends and Arcane, and re-ups those figures with fresh movesets for 2KXO. The official theme for the game had been released in September by Polyphia.
Though “Ties That Bind” begins with manically thwacked, hollow-tube percussion sounds and a vicious barrage of guitar trills, the tune generally plays to the poppier side of LaPlante’s vocal aesthetic. Throughout, she sings of untethering herself from past expectations (“I tried so hard to be your savior”), yet also of how victorious it can be when two hearts beat together in time.
You can check it out via the player up above. The game, meanwhile, is currently in the Beta phase for PC play, and will eventually be released to other gaming platforms. More 2KXO info can be found here.
In other news, Spiritbox are set to launch their next North American headline tour in November. The three-week trip finds them joined by Periphery and Honey Revenge, and you can find the full schedule here.
