The Jesus Lizard are officially back! While the esteemed Nineties noise-rock pioneers are all set to play their first shows in five years this week, they’ve also just revealed that they’re about to drop their first full-length release since 1998. Dubbed Rack, the group’s seventh album is due September 13th, via Ipecac Records.
A press release confirms that the band’s latest album, which follows 1998’s Blue, was recorded with producer Paul Allen at Nashville, Tennessee’s Audio Eagle Studio. It’s the first bit of recorded music since the group began their reunion phase in 2008. It’s likewise the first full-length project to be recorded by the classic lineup of vocalist David Yow, guitarist Duane Denison, bassist David Wm. Sims and drummer Mac McNeilly since 1996’s Shot.
To celebrate the news, the Jesus Lizard have unleashed the album-opening “Hide & Seek,” which Yow describes as “a perky ditty about a witch who can’t behave.” He added that “it’s got nearly as many hooks as a Mike Tyson fight,” and who are we to disagree?

In addition to a trio of live appearances this week, including a stop at the inaugural No Values fest in Pomona, California, the Jesus Lizard have additionally announced a run of U.S. dates to keep them busy near the album release, as well as a European trek lined up for next January, and a few more West Coast U.S. dates set for the spring of 2025.
