Coming off Militarie Gun’s recent, slamming wrestling entrance theme song for Post Malone, the L.A.-based post-hardcore quintet are back with a gentler-landing ballad. That said, the video for pop-tinged new single “Thought You Were Waving” is thematically way darker and heavier than you’d expect.
Directed by Neta Ben-Ezra, the video finds MG bandleader Ian Shelton and the rest of the group basking in the sunny summer glow surrounding their ranch compound, whether greeting folks from their front stoop, loungin’ near the horse stables, or cooking up a meal in the kitchen. Insidiously, as the distortion-dusted, Beatles-esque walkdown melody grows, some guests become less than thrilled at the realization that this may become their forever home.

Despite last month’s WWE 2K4 video game theme, “Thought You Were Waving” marks the first official Militarie Gun single since the release of last year’s much-acclaimed Life Under the Gun album. The new tune was co-written between the band and Zachary Dawes (Lana Del Rey, Sharon van Etten, Bully, Elton John).
Militarie Gun are set to spend much of the rest of 2024 out on the road, with their schedule including a hometown show at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre on July 25th plus summer festival dates.
