As the world turns, it becomes clearer and clearer that Marilyn Manson is a ubiquitous influence on a whole generation of gothy, lo-fi shut-ins, from Soundcloud rap to shoegaze. The latest to make that allegiance clear is Philly trio Timelost, who include members of instrumental rock band Set & Setting and black-metal crew Woe, and are readying their debut album, Don’t Remember Me For This, for release on October 25th. On the LP’s track list you’ll find a cover of the Marilyn Manson classic “Cryptorchid,” which the group interpreted with a heaping spoonful of garage-punk scuzz.
“The album was almost done being written, we were only a few weeks away from recording, and I was on a heavy Manson kick,” said drummer Grzesiek Czapla to Popmatters. “There were a couple of songs I had wanted to try, but ‘Cryptorchid’ was the oddest one and had Shane interested immediately. We were already knee-deep in trying new things since this band, and this ‘style’ was new to the both of us, and I guess working on a song like that had the same allure.”
“It sounds like a Timelost song, and it’s cool to be honoring one of my rock & roll gods,” he added. “It wasn’t our intention to make the second half sound like Cock Sparrer, but we’re not mad about it.” Listen to the cover above.
