Having recently wrapped up a round of tour dates playing guitar with Marilyn Manson, Reba Meyers is back on her solo grind. The Code Orange co-founder just dropped her third solo single, and it turns out it’s the title cut to her forthcoming debut full-length, Clouded World.
Meyers’ latest track follows previous offering “Certain Uncertainty” and “Got Your Hold on Me.” A press release explains that the latest punky sandblaster was recorded with iconic engineer and Shellac member Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio facility, just six months before his passing in 2024.
“Steve championed the medium of physical recordings, and that process inherently encourages the commitment to imperfection,” Meyers commented. “I hope to embrace the randomness and grit of life, which includes our imperfections, as both their beauty and ugliness are often able to both inspire and teach us about our inner workings.”
The grit she put into “Clouded World” manifests as a raw, in-the-red round of power chords, sweat-slicked rawk drums and Meyers pushing her tuneful vocals towards a mighty, mean and melodic rasp. Throughout, she critiques the more “fucked-up” aspects of living in someone else’s “perfect moral little world.”
“Too many aspects of the modern human condition feel entirely over-labored and orchestrated,” Meyers explained. “We have drifted far from our primal instincts and have gotten so distracted by the myriad tools at our fingertips that we forget that our human imperfections are the one thing that makes us special and unpredictable.”
You can check out Clouded World’s title track via the music video up above. The beach-set bash-out was directed by Sanford Worth and Tony Aguilera, while Meyers is seen rockin’ the cut alongside Myles Ulrich (Taipei Houston) and multi-instrumentalist Lola Colette.
A release date has yet to be announced for Clouded World, though Meyers has a grip of summer solo shows on the horizon. You’ll find the date details below.
