Coming off the late 2024 release of Reba Meyers’ debut solo single, “Certain Uncertainty,” the Code Orange founder and Marilyn Manson live guitarist has now unveiled her next single. It’s an icy, drum machine-clacking dream-pop ballad called “Got Your Hold on Me.”
The new track — which was produced by Meyers before receiving a mix by Steve Evetts (The Cure, The Wonder Years) and mastering from Alan Douches — low-key kind of begins with a “When Doves Cry”-styled drum machine beat, which seems to fit with the violet-hued tones of the music video, as well as the tastefully heart-rending and early Prince-ish solo Meyers rains down on the tune later on. That said, the track also gives off plenty of those early Nineties, Enigma-esque downtempo flavors.
Lyrically, the love-themed track reflects on the extreme feelings that grab a hold of us once “cupid’s deed” is done.
“Being human is painful,” Meyers said in a statement. “Being human and in love with anything or anyone is even more painful. I hope we can all find what helps us cope without it killing us or turning us into emotionless robots.”
Meyers’ latest track can be heard through the player above. Both “Certain Uncertainty” and “Got Your Hold on Me” precede a forthcoming solo album from Meyers, which is expected to be released later this year.
