You think you got it bad? Well, Lamb of God have the “Blunt Force Blues.”
Before we officially get to head Into Oblivion with the celebrated Virgina metal lifers, the group have offered up yet another heavy tease from their forthcoming 12th LP, a gnarly riff-basher they call the “Blunt Force Blues.”
The song leans into savagely efficient low-string judding throughout, yet also features maleficent melodies coursing out the speakers and a couple real sick percussive punctuation marks during the bloodletting breakdown. Randy Blythe growls of “death blows” battering off concrete walls and screams that fill city streets.
In a press statement, he suggests the song reflects the various skills Lamb of God accrued along their heavy metal journey, especially the heavy life-hacks they picked up from their local underground.
“We learned how to play by watching and hanging out with other local dudes,” he says. “That’s what we aspired to do – keep up with good local bands. They were just as much of an influence on us as any of the bigger bands from different cities.”
“For me, the album is about having the space to breathe creatively and not feeling like we have to keep up with any trend or expectation,” adds guitarist Mark Morton. “It feels nice to be untethered from any agenda beyond rallying around the notion of, ‘Let’s just make music that we think is cool,’ which is really where it all started.”
You’ll find a video for the new single up above. The upcoming Into Oblivion had previously been teased by its title track, anti-tech rage-out “Parasocial Christ” and sludgy-yet-speedy fall single “Sepsis.”

LOG will support the LP on a North American headline tour that features opening acts Kublai Khan TX, Fit for an Autopsy and Sanguisugabogg. The first stop is March 17th at National Harbor, Maryland’s Theater MGM.
