Fresh off their tour with Deftones, hardcore outfit the Barbarians of California have issued a new single. The latest track features a guest vocal spot from Many Eyes vocalist Keith Buckley, too, and they’ve called the joint rage-out “PSEUDO INTELLECTUALS ARE HATING ON MY BAND!!! (pure power)”
The song marks the Barbarians’ follow-up to summer single “MODERN FASHION” — not to mention 2024 debut LP And Now I’m Just Gnashing My Teeth — and while it begins with some floaty guitar atmospherics, it quickly pedals into a mix of leanly thrashed licks and cro-magnon stomps.
Through all that, vocalist Aaron Bruno (AWOLNATION) and ex Every Time I Die vocalist Buckley trade smarmed-and-screamed lines on scene cred (“According to my brother, my imaginary friend, and a hardcore rock kid I’m a perfect ten”). The band wrote in a joint statement that they’re “super excited” about their latest single “for many reasons.”
“It probably covers more ground than we ever have in one, single song,” they noted. “Also, getting to have the legendary presence of Keith Buckley from Many Eyes and Every Time I Die on the song crosses off a big box on our bucket list.”
