Ukrainian prog-tinged metal juggernauts Jinjer are on the verge of unveiling their fifth-full-length, Duél, with the album release just over a week away. The band, however, are doing us another solid by delivering one last sneak preview, and this time it’s for the heavy title track, itself.
“Duél” instantly goes for the jugular with a flurry of frenetic drum fills and an ultra-assaulting array of noise-mashed riffs. Once it gets into a speed-picked, thrashy verse, vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk multi-layers melodic vocals about two strangers getting ready to face-off in an honor-bound death match on an icy winter’s day.
The rest of the song is a rollercoaster of heavy breakdowns, jazz-adjacent shredding and feral screams. You can check that all out up above via the gun-toting, fire-flickering animated video, which was drawn and animated by artist Oleksii Zatserkovnyi.
