The Jesus Lizard comeback continues with a new, AI-abusing video for Rack track “Alexis Is Sick.” As you might expect from, it’s nauseating in all the right ways.
Musically, the piece hearkens back to the bossa nova rimshot queasiness of something like Down’s “Low Rider,” and it comes accompanied by treble-snap bass twang and some unsettling guitar minimalism from Duane Denison. Frontman David Yow leans into a haunted howl while crooning of the “sheer greed of the dogs and the hatred they adore.”
The video itself was conceptualized by Yow, who seemingly jammed a bunch of prompts into open AI to create a nightmare swirl of ballerinas with distorted limbs, demonic businessmen, a banquet where bemused guests’ faces melt into their pasta dishes, and a Jack Russell Terrier feasting on scraps of offal and discarded dollar bills. Then there’s a steady slideshow of some of the scariest dogs imaginable.
“The ‘Alexis Feels Sick’ video is a disgusting and comically impressionistic portrait of American Late Stage Capitalism… with some doggies,” Yow said in a statement, with guitarist Denison adding that the video is a “study in greed, gluttony, and… dogs.” You can see for yourself up above.
As previously reported, the Jesus Lizard’s Rack marks the band’s first full-length since 1998’s Blue. It arrives September 13 via Ipecac, with a Revolver-exclusive copy on yellow vinyl, limited to 500 copies, available now through our shop.
