Imminence continue the world-building campaign behind their upcoming Axis Mundi album, having just launched a video behind a new and stargazing single called “If Not Now, When.”
The track is the fourth single behind the impending Axis Mundi, following “The Sword That Never Bends,” “False Light” and “Crestfallen.” The newest tune bounces to a different beat, almost Deftones-ish in its swirl of hypnotically crushed-out rhythms, soul-seeking melodic dreaminess and vocalist-violinst Eddie Berg’s sigh-driven verses.
That said, they briefly swerve towards a more metallically chugged-and-screamed section, and then usher in a Zen-mode back-end of piano intricacy and slow-bowed serenity.
The video continues the ongoing saga of an unnamed knight’s fantastic voyage. The “False Light” video ended with the sword-swinger encountering a stray pup. The new video finds that shaggy scamp excitedly hopping across rocks and creeks, while the slightly on-guard knight shines their hardware by the light of a campfire. Perhaps illustrating the quick bond they’ve forged, we see the knight through the eyes of the dog, and a luminescent glow surrounds the adopted hero figure like a halo.
A press release notes that the extended narrative “follows an immortal knight condemned to wander endlessly in search of the one thing forever beyond his reach: death.” No spoilers, but they may be one step closer to their goal by the end of the video.
As previously reported, Axis Mundi is out October 2nd via Imminence’s new label home, Sumerian Records. An exclusive vinyl pre-order for the album on “Gold, Neon Orange, & Silver Striped w/ Black Splatter”-hued wax (limited to 300 copies) is already up in Revolver’s shop, along with an exclusive cassette version of the album and an Imminence-branded slipmat.
Furthermore, Imminence launch a North American tour in November. The headline run finds them joined by support acts Dying Wish and Gaerea, and it begins November 13th at The Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts. More date details can be seen here.
