Imminence have exited The Black and entered a brand-new era with a battle-ready banger, a standalone single called “The Sword That Never Bends.”
The track is the Swedish metalcore group’s first new tune since they unveiled last year’s expanded The Return of the Black release. It likewise marks the band’s first piece of music for their new label home, Sumerian Records.
“The Sword That Never Bends” begins with nu-groovy bombast and plenty of detuned artillery. It trends towards the more inkily melodic side of Imminence, vocalist-violinist Eddie Berg generally crooning his way through lines about oaths and protection. That said, he does bring some big, pointed growls to the piece, too.
“We all knew from the start — this was a single,” the band shared in a joint statement. “Everyone who heard it felt the same. ‘The Sword That Never Bends’ came alive in a way that immediately defined both the sound and the themes of where Imminence is headed next. It introduces a new dimension to our identity and carries a relentless energy that pulls you out from the shadows of The Black.”

You’ll find the medieval-themed music video for “The Sword That Never Bends” — comprising slash-and-burn village attacks, brutal sorcery, and performance footage of Imminence — up above. Presented by the band, longtime collaborator Pavel Trebukhin and writer Juan Zuleta, the clip is purportedly “the first glimpse into a larger visual world the band has been building behind the scenes.”
A full-length follow-up to The Black has yet to be revealed, but more music is expected soon.
