Baltimore hardcore band The S.E.T. — featuring former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert — have arrived. The group have just an unleashed a neck-wreckin’ single titled “T.M.T.” to tease forthcoming debut EP, Self Evident Truth.
In just under a minute-and-a-half, the track initially harnesses crossover-caustic riffage from Ebert and crazed cymbal stops, but eventually leans into an off-the-bone groove section that finds the band spitting their truth.
“In the Declaration of Independence, the two self-evident truths were that all people are created equal, and that everyone has the right to pursue happiness,” Ebert expresses in a statement. “Unfortunately, the powers that be have forgotten that and are trying to deny us normal working-class citizens those truths, and we can’t let that happen.”
The S.E.T. joins Ebert, who’d departed from Turnstile in 2022, with bassist and Flatspot Records magnate Che Figueroa, drummer Ryan (ex End It) and vocalist Tim. The band’s debut EP, which is out March 6th through Flatspot, was recorded and mixed by Justin Day at New Noise Recording, and then mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege.
Sonically, the songs are said to take inspiration from Judge and Leeway, while the overall theme of the record is apparently about “keeping a clear vision within the chaos of the world.”
Vocalist Tim adds of the band’s M.O.: “We live in a society, especially now with this current administration, where the people up top try to defy the truth through propaganda, war, racism and all forms of authoritarian ideas. I wanted this release to define what we are and what we believe the truth is.”
