Nu-jacent Canadian rock combo Finger Eleven have waggled out a new single to preview their first album in a decade: Last Night On Earth. Ahead of the official LP release, the band have teamed-up with Filter singer Richard Patrick to deliver a track called “Blue Sky Mystery.”
A press release explains that the song had initially been going under the working title “10 Ton Saber,” with guitarist James Black having envisioned a Star Wars-esque scene while the band were writing the groove-heavy swing. The cut also apparently had a Sabbathian feel while they were working it all out, but currently stomps out with a modern hard rock feel.
Vocalist Scott Anderson and Filter’s Richard Patrick trade verses on the cut, with the lyrics having apparently arisen out of Finger Eleven’s frontman after tumbling down a “rabbit hole of a deep obsession” (“I’ve lost my mind to fascination / I’m falling through your blue sky mystery”).
“The more it’s in front of you, the less you understand it, the more you’re obsessed with it,” he explained in a statement. “You can’t get your mind around it, or away from it.”
Last Night On Earth marks Finger Eleven’s first full-length release since 2015’s Five Crooked Lines. That said, they issued their “Adrenaline” single last August when they were out on tour with Creed. That track will also appear on Last Night On Earth.
