Back in October, Dream Theater announced their upcoming album, Parasomnia, and unleashed its lead single “Night Terror,” the first new music from the band’s classic lineup — including OG drummer Mike Portnoy — since 2009’s Black Clouds & Silver Linings. Today, the prog-metal legends offered up a second taste of the highly anticipated LP, the hard-hitting “A Broken Man.”
The song tells the story of a war veteran suffering from nightmares and insomnia due to combat experience, and it contains audio from actual vets recounting the traumatic events of their combat deployments.
The single arrived today (December 3rd) accompanied by a gritty visualizer video, created by longtime Dream Theater collaborator Wayne Joyner, that brings the themes of the song to life. Watch and listen above.
In addition to Portnoy, who officially linked back up with his longtime bandmates in 2023, Parasomnia also features longtime Dream Theater members James LaBrie (vocals), John Petrucci (guitar), John Myung (bass) and Jordan Rudess (keyboards). The band cut the record with engineer James “Jimmy T” Meslin, while Petrucci handled production duties, and Andy Sneap took care of mixing.
Parasomnia is due out February 7th via Inside Out Music/Sony Music.
