While fans eagerly await new Deftones music, guitarist Stephen Carpenter has been keeping busy. The axe-man recently rolled out the debut EP from his long-running side project Sol Invicto, Loosely Aware. Now, he can be heard riffing low and slow on a new song, “Lyrical Hammers,” off Real Psycho, the just-released collaborative album from Cypress Hill’s B-Real and the Beatnuts’ Psycho Les.

Carpenter and B-Real notably collaborated in the past in a short-lived rap-metal project called Kush, which was formed in 2000 and also featured bassist Christian Olde Wolbers and drummer Raymond Herrera, both then of Fear Factory. Sadly, the group fizzled out before officially releasing any music.
Next up for Carpenter, he’s set to join Deftones on their massive 2025 North American tour, which kicks off February 25th at Portland, Oregon’s Moda Center. Check out the full itinerary here.
